Tax credit

Where projects involve the borrower's first home, the related costs may be eligible for a tax credit depending on the type of refurbishments and work carried out. The rate of a “sustainable development” tax credit is set at:

• 15% of the purchase price of a low-temperature boiler.
• 25% of the purchase price of a condensing boiler, solar insulation fittings and heating regulators. For income tax declared from 2006 onwards, a tax credit of 40% applies to work carried out on homes built before 1 January 1977 that is completed no later than 31 December of the second year following their acquisition.
• 25% of the cost of the materials needed to connect to a heating network and of rainwater recovery and treatment systems.
• 50% of the cost of renewable energy-producing equipment and heat pumps on income tax declared from 2006 onwards. The tax credit applies to the acquisition cost (including VAT) of the equipment specified on the invoice of the company that carried out the work.

Upper limits:

From 1 January, 2005 to 31 December, 2009, tax credits on eligible sustainable development costs are capped at:

• € 8,000 for persons who are single, widowed or divorced.
• € 16,000 for married couples or couples that have signed a PACS (French civil solidarity pact), plus € 400 per dependent. This increase is halved for children considered to be equally dependent on parents that are separated or divorced and who live part of the time with either parent.

The general conditions governing tax credits are available from your local branch.
