Photography has been a part of HSBC France’s cultural policy for many years now. Today, the Group's patronage of the photographic arts is carried out by the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie, which was created in 1995 under the aegis of the Fondation de France.
The Prix HSBC pour la Photographie supports little-known professional artists by helping them to promote their work. Each year, the Prix HSBC sponsors two young contemporary photographers striving to capture the real world on film. There are no pre-requisites as to age or nationality.
Support to today's generation of budding photographers
The Prix HSBC pour la Photographie is chaired by Peter Boyles, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC France. Christine Raoult, HSBC France Deputy Head of Public Relations is the Executive Director of the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie.
The Prix HSBC is committed to providing continuous support to today's generation of budding photographers. Every year, two artists are chosen through a rigorous selection process and their work is promoted to a wide audience.
Candidates are selected through an annual contest held by the Prix HSBC pour la Photographie from October to December. The Artistic Consultant is responsible for pre-selecting a dozen finalists. The Executive Committee then selects the two winning candidates by secret ballot.
The Prix HSBC pour la Photographie supports the work of its two laureates through:
• Organising, within 18 months of selecting the two laureates, joint exhibitions
• Co-publishing the first monograph of each of the laureates in collaboration with the publisher Actes Sud, in the “Collection du Prix HSBC pour la Photographie”; the choosing of the photos is carried out with the laureate under the supervision of the Artistic Director of the collection and the Artistic Adviser for that year.
• Guaranteeing the acquisition of at least six pieces by HSBC France for a total of 5,000 euros, to be added to its private photography collection.
