In 2008, the HSBC Group signed a three-year partnership with the FEI (International Federation for Equestrian Sports), becoming the official sponsor of the international "Concours Complet" eventing competition.
Riders compete in three categories – dressage, cross-country and jumping - over the three-day event. This combined discipline allows men and women to compete as equals.
HSBC is principal sponsor of the following events:
• The "HSBC FEI Classics", which includes the five most prestigious competitions in the world:
• 23 - 26 April, 2009: The Rolex Kentucky in USA
• 7 - 9 May 2009: The Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials in United Kingdom
• 11 - 14 June: The Luhmühlen Horse Trials in Germany
• 3 - 6 September 2009: The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials in United Kingdom
• 21 - 25 October 2009: the Etoiles de Pau in France
The final stage of the HSBC FEI Classics circuit traditionally takes place in France at the Etoiles de Pau on the last weekend in October. It is an opportunity for riders from all over the world to meet up for a final competition before the winter intermission.
In 2008, Englishman William Fox Pitt won the HSBC FEI Classics and its purse of 150,000 dollars, which makes it the most coveted eventing prize in the world.
