HSBC sponsors professional, amateur and junior golf in more than 25 countries.
The importance of golf for HSBC
"Integrity, accuracy and self-control are values associated with golf and sought by HSBC customers. Sponsoring golf is another way for HSBC to be close to its customers." Giles Morgan, sponsorship for the HSBC Group.
Since 2007, the Group's sponsorship of professional golf tournaments has been focused on Asia, with the HSBC Champions in Shanghai in November and the HSBC Women's Champions in Singapore in March.
Both these competitions bring together the top 80 professional golfers worldwide.
HSBC is also very active in amateur and junior golf, with the Wee Wonders programme in the United Kingdom, for instance. This tournament, which has been running since 1995, attracts more than 4,000 children every year.
HSBC and golf in France
In France, HSBC has created a unique concept: the HSBC Premier Family Golf Tour, around the idea of having amateur golfers from the same family play together.
This prestigious competition is organised in five clubs in 2009:
HSBC France, which supports educational causes, was keen to give this initiative a family dimension by stipulating that the players form two-person teams on the basis of a family connection - father/son or daughter/stepfather, for instance. By organizing a family competition, HSBC underlines its positioning as the high-end bank catering for the whole family.
HSBC is also sponsoring the Lexus Pro Am in Paris from Wednesday 15 July to Saturday 18 July.
This competition is played by teams of three amateurs and one professional golfer in four golf clubs in the Paris region: Golf du RCF La Boulie, Paris International Golf Club, Golf National, and Golf du Prieuré.
